2010 Summer School

    The Saint Mary’s Summer School program is conducted in two sessions.  Each session represents one semester of study.  The tuition fee for each session is $150.  Tuition is due with the summer school registration form.  Textbooks and materials, where indicated, are extra.  Students are required to wear their school uniform. Students will be allocated to a session on a first-come-first-serve basis. When sessions reach their maximum size, enrollment in that session will be closed.  Please note: The maximum number of classes a student can take during a session is one.  If a student needs or wants to take two courses, they are committed to taking both sessions.  Registration forms are available in the Main Office and should be returned to the Business Office by Friday, May 14, 2010.

     


      The First Session runs from Tuesday, June 8, to Friday, June 25

      Monday through Friday each week, 7:30 am to 12:30 pm

      The Second Session runs from Monday, June 28, to Friday, July 16

      Monday through Friday each week, 7:30 am to 12:30 pm

      NOTE:  Monday, July 5 is a holiday and no classes will be held.

      The cafeteria is open from 9:50-10:10 for the daily snack/drink break

    Art 1-2 (drawing, painting, sculpture) (9, 10, 11, 12):  Two separate sessions of Art 1-2 are offered.  Students may enroll in one or both of the sessions.  Session One is not a prerequisite for Session Two.  Students will earn one-half credit for successful completion of each session, which counts toward fulfilling the one credit Arizona university and Saint Mary’s High School Fine Arts requirement.  Credit: one-half credit per session.  NOTE:  There is a $20 Materials Fee required for this course, due with the registration fee.  No textbook is required.

    Geometry (9, 10, 11, 12): This course is available to students who have completed Algebra 1-2 with a grade of C or better and who have not yet taken Geometry; these students must take both semesters of Geometry and will earn one full credit. This course also is available to students who have a deficiency in Geometry; these students must take the session which corresponds to the semester that they failed.   NOTE:  Students who began their mathematics studies as freshmen at the Pre-algebra level - taking two semesters of Geometry in summer school will enable these sophomores to meet the entrance requirements of the three Arizona universities, which require a year of mathematics beyond Algebra 3-4/Trigonometry.  Credit: one-half credit per session.  Textbook:  RequiredThere is a $20 Textbook Rental Fee required for this course, due with the registration fee.

    Guitar (9, 10, 11, 12): This course is ONLY offered during the SECOND Session of summer school. It is for beginners, but the instructor will also accommodate more advanced players.  There will be a strong emphasis on learning how to read music.  In addition, students will be exposed to various guitar styles, techniques, music theory, individual practice, and playing in large and small ensembles.  Students will earn one-half credit for successful completion of the session, which counts toward fulfilling one-half of the one credit Arizona university and Saint Mary’s High School Fine Arts requirement. Guitars are provided for in class use only.  Credit: one-half credit. Textbook:  There is a $20 Textbook Rental/Materials Fee required for this course, due with the registration fee.

    Language Arts (9):  This course is offered both sessions. It is required for some incoming freshmen but open to any incoming freshman who wishes to improve and enhance their language arts (reading/writing) skills.  Credit: none.  Textbook:  There is a $20 Textbook Rental/Materials Fee required for this course, due with the registration fee.

    Pre-Algebra (9):  This course is offered both sessions. It is required for some incoming freshmen, is optional for others, and is necessary for students needing to satisfy a deficiency in Pre-Algebra from the 2009-2010 school year. Only students taking the course to satisfy a deficiency in Pre-Algebra will earn one-half credit for the successful completion of a session.  Otherwise, this course does not earn high school credit.  Credit:  none.  Textbook:  Pre-Algebra, Glencoe, ISBN # 0-02-825031-1 distributed the first day of class. There is a $20 Textbook Rental Fee required for this course, due with the registration fee.
